ROSE / NERVE / NO APOLOGY
READ MORETHE NAME
Getting caught wanting something, and not being sorry about it. That's Red Handed.
THE FEELING
A big red rose that doesn't behave. It opens bright and a bit sharp, then settles into something softer that people only notice when they lean in.
- THE FIRST LOOK
- A bright bite. A held gaze.
- THE WANT
- Rose, in full bloom.
- THE EVIDENCE
- Warm skin. A trace that stays.
THE NAME
The question you're hoping they'll ask at midnight. Stay Over is the yes.
THE FEELING
Sun through half-closed curtains on a slow morning. Bright citrus first, then white flowers, then the warmth of someone who hasn't left yet.
- THE LIGHT
- Sunlit citrus. Curtains half open.
- THE CLOSENESS
- White flowers. Bare shoulders.
- THE MORNING AFTER
- Warm skin. Nowhere else to be.

- Cold air. A sudden spark.
- THE TELL
- Rain on stone. Warmth underneath.
- THE UNSAID
- Something close. Impossible to hide.
HOUSE / 01 WHY A BOTTLE
YOU CAN’TPHOTOGRAPHA SMELL.
A screen can only show you pictures, so that’s what this site is made of. We use them to show what beautiful looks like: a rose with the thorns still on, morning light through the curtains, rain on stone.
READ MOREBut a picture can’t tell you what any of it smells like. Think about your mum’s house, or someone’s jumper after they’ve gone home. You’d know that smell anywhere, and you couldn’t show it to anyone. Smell is the bit you can’t screenshot, save or send. You have to be there for it.
That’s what the bottle is for. It’s the only way I know to keep a smell and hand it to someone else. The pictures get you close. The bottle is the real thing.
So don’t go off the pictures. Smell it for yourself.
BE FIRST TO SMELL THEM +HOUSE / 02 OUR MARK / THE KINGFISHER
NOCAGE.
My earliest memory is my grandfather pointing out a kingfisher and telling me all about it. You barely notice them until they move, and then there’s this flash of blue you don’t forget. I never have, so it’s on every bottle. I want République to be that flash of blue.
HOUSE / 03 OUR NAME / RÉPUBLIQUE
FOREVERYONE.
Good perfume used to be for royalty. Louis XV’s court at Versailles was even called the perfumed court. A “république” is what you get once the king’s gone and things belong to everyone, so that’s the name (and the little accent on the é makes it look cooler). You shouldn’t need to be the best-looking person in the room, in the nicest clothes, on the softest designer couch, to smell good.
HOUSE / 04 HOW IT STARTED / MELBOURNE
SINCE2008.
I started making perfume in 2008, right in the middle of the financial crisis. Back then it was a hobby, because I always had to work. That was eighteen years ago, so yeah, I’m old now. Somewhere along the way it turned into the thing I actually wanted to do, and I’m finally at a point where I can give it a proper go.
READ MOREThere’s no lab or warehouse yet, just my bench, a lot of paper strips and more trials than I can count. The ingredients come from all over the world, and it’s all blended and bottled here in Melbourne.
Nobody’s paid to say nice things about these. We value honesty. If you don’t like one, good, tell us. We’ll always do better.
